Kangadoo Instruction Guide

Note: the following instructions refer to an introductory email message sent to the account owner when originally activating the Kangadoo subscription.  If you are the account owner and do not have this introductory email message, please click here to get it.  If you are not the account owner, have the account owner forward it to you.

Add Photos

  • Open the introductory email message you received when activating your Kangadoo subscription. The last paragraph of the message contains the email address you must use to submit photos to your private photo web site. You can email photos from a computer connected to the Internet or directly from a cellular phone. (Internet service providers and cellular phone companies may charge data fees.) You must send photos in .jpg (JPEG) form, the default for almost all cameras, as attachments to email messages. You do not need to change photo size before sending: Kangadoo does this automatically. But you must send photos upright.
  • When you email photos, you may send one or multiple photo attachments in the same email message.
  • The subject of the email message will become the caption of all the photos attached to that message.
  • Some email computer servers have delays, so it may take up to 10 minutes to see new photos after you email them.

View Photos

  • Forward the introductory email message you received when activating your Kangadoo subscription to everyone who you would like to access your private photo web site. The secure link in the email message is like a password. Do not post it publicly.
  • All viewers must click the secure link the first time they access the private photo web site. After the secure link has been used once on a computer, the shorter link, which is also in the introductory email message, can be used in the future.
  • Both the secure link and the shorter link can be "bookmarked" or "added to favorites" by viewers so that they can easily return to the Kangadoo site.
  • If a new computer is used, or if "web cookies" are cleared from a viewer's computer, the secure link must be used again to re-certify the computer.
  • In the web site, viewers can click the link at the bottom labeled "Make Kangadoo Your Start Page" so that they always see the latest photo when they start their web browsers. (This link is only present in Internet Explorer.)

Advanced Features

  • Download Photo. Click the "Download Photo" link to download a file containing the photo you are currently viewing. This link is at the bottom of the page. The filename of the downloaded photo is useful—it includes the date and caption in the filename.
  • Hide Photos from Sender. Hide all photos from a sender by clicking the link below a photo that says "Hide Photos from this Sender." (You can always unhide using the link at the bottom of the Archive screen.) Kangadoo defines a sender by their email address, so you may have to do this more than once if someone is using multiple email addresses to send in photos.
  • Archive. Click the Archive link to view past photos. At the bottom of the Archive page, there is a link labeled "Download Archive." Use this link to download all of your images, in a zipped file, to your computer for use with another program. (The downloaded file respects the "Hide Photos from Sender" settings that you may be using.) The filenames of the photos downloaded are useful—they include the date and caption in the filename.
  • Delete. Only the owner of an account can delete photos, though anyone may request deletion of a photo by clicking the link labeled "[del]" beneath the photo in the Archive page. Clicking one of these links sends an email to the account owner for confirmation. If approved, the photo will be permanently deleted.
  • High Resolution. To load the highest resolution of a photo into your web browser, click on the image in the main View page. Note that your web browser may resize the image, but you can then still right-click this image and save it your computer to get the highest resolution available.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Problem: You didn't receive your introductory email after you activated your account online.
Solution: Check your email spam folder. If you still didn't receive it, click here to contact support.
  • Problem: Viewers cannot access your private photo web site.
Solution: Make sure they click the secure link the first time they try to access the web site. This link certifies their computer for secure viewing.
  • Problem: Your photos are showing up very small on screen.
Solution: Send the photos to Kangadoo in higher resolution. Kangadoo displays them at the largest size possible given the photo received.
  • Problem: You emailed a photo, and it never appeared.
Solution: Double-check the email address you are sending it to, making sure it matches the address in the last paragraph of the Kangadoo introductory email. Make sure you are sending a .jpg (JPEG) photo. Make sure the photo is an attachment to the email being sent. Then send again. Wait 10 minutes, then refresh your web browser. If it still doesn't appear, click here to contact support.
  • Problem: You used to be able to access your private photo web site, but now you cannot.
Solution: "Web cookies" were likely cleared on your computer. Click on the secure link in the introductory email again to re-certify your computer.
